Medical school was incredibly difficult even though I felt like I excelled at what I did.  I was competent and respected.  When I became an attending, I felt a sense of disappointment, realizing that somehow it was a much bigger deal for my male colleagues to have that status.  For me, it almost lowered my status as a woman.
